Feel the weight of being alive.

Through the Wound, There’s Grace proposes that brokenness is not a flaw to conceal, but an artifact of survival and grace. Imperfections in the artwork become quiet teachers, revealing that creation, like healing, is less about perfection and more about presence.

Through the slow, tactile assembly of paper and mixed media, the work transforms process into presence — introducing a quieter rhythm of making, where care replaces urgency and reflection becomes an act of healing.

Each layer, tear, and stain tells the story of its making, serving as proof that creation, like healing, unfolds through trial, patience, and grace.

In this way, the composition mirrors the human journey toward restoration — a meditation on gentle reconstruction as a form of spiritual and emotional renewal. The aesthetic of imperfection becomes a quiet declaration of strength, an embodiment of grace shaped through acceptance rather than correction.

Chapter 1:

The Drowning

Before the first breath

Agony doesn’t tap the shoulder; it crashes in like a rising wave, swallowing breath and dragging you into suffocation, desperation, and the terrifying loss of control.

That’s the first language of trauma.

The opening chapter of Through the Wound, There’s Grace begins at the wound itself; at the moment of its making, in the sharp and undeniable intensity that marks its existence, in the honest recognition of hurt.

A torn handwritten note, a decorative framed artwork, and dried grass on a piece of cardboard.

Chapter 2

The Weight Of Being

Presence to heal

Various fabric and lace pieces, a handwritten note on a black surface with purple ink reading 'You are not alone in your struggle,' a simple outline drawing of a person with trees, and a ribbon featuring fabric with lace and a small cutout of a human figure.

After the pain has entered every fiber of our being, we’re left carrying the weight of our new form.

Every traumatic event leaves an imprint so strong that even days, months, and years later, the body still remembers.

We can only emerge from this darkness by moving through it , feeling the intensity, releasing it, and allowing it to loosen its hold.

At times it can feel like a kind of death, but through the weight of simply being, we realize we are still alive.

Chapter 3

An art journal opened to pages painted with watercolor and marker, featuring abstract brain illustrations with black branching lines, highlighted with yellow, purple, and pink accents, and flanked by three-dimensional red paper embellishments in the center.

The Resurfacing

The Glow of Life

The chains have loosened.

We can breathe again, though the shock of life still lingers in the rawness of our lungs.

We feel foreign to living at first, unfamiliar with the lightness, unsure how to move without bracing for impact. But strength has returned in small, steady ways.

Our brokenness has mended just enough for us to feel the quiet glow around us again, to notice the gentleness in simple things, to allow a real smile to rise.

An art journal page with blue painted swirls, cut-out words saying 'You are' and 'Unique', holographic triangles, a picture frame, a piece of fabric, a pearl necklace, and gold splatters.

The Unveiling

A life long masterpiece

Chapter 4

Radical presence ushers us into the next chapter. We look in the mirror and no longer recognize who we were, because we are no longer the same.

We’ve been reshaped, re-formed, transformed.

A masterpiece in progress.

We become an art piece we continue to carve and refine each day — by choosing presence, by holding hope, by releasing what once held us.

You are art.
